Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the AI Text Translator browser extension ("the extension", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. The extension is a tool that translates text and reads it aloud. We only process the data needed to provide these features, and we do not run our own servers that collect your data.

Information the extension processes

• Text you choose to translate or hear. When you select text on a page, enter text into the extension, or open a document (including local PDF files) for translation, that text is processed to produce a translation or spoken audio. The extension reads this content only when you actively request a translation or reading.
• API keys you provide. To use AI translation and reading, you enter your own Google Gemini API key and, optionally, a Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API key. These keys are stored locally in your browser using the browser storage API and are used only to authenticate your requests to Google. They are never sent to the developer.
• Your preferences. Settings such as your source and target languages, chosen translation model, and interface options are stored locally in your browser so the extension remembers your choices.

Third-party services your text is sent to

To perform translation and reading, the text you submit is sent directly from your browser to Google services:

• Google Translate API (translate.googleapis.com) - to translate text.
• Google Generative Language API / Gemini (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) - for AI-based translation and reading.
• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API (texttospeech.googleapis.com) - to generate spoken audio, when you use that feature.

These requests are made using your own API keys. The text is sent only to return a translation or audio result to you. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's own privacy policy and API terms.

What we do NOT do

• We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
• We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
• We do not collect your name, email, passwords, or payment information.
• We do not track your browsing history across websites.
• We do not send your text or API keys to any server operated by the developer.
• We do not retain the text you translate after the result is returned.

Data storage and retention

Your API keys and preferences are kept only in your local browser storage and remain on your device. You can remove them at any time by clearing the extension's data in its options page or by uninstalling the extension. The developer does not store any of your content.

Permissions

The extension requests the browser permissions required to read the text you ask it to translate, to work on the pages and local files you open, and to display the translation or play audio. Permissions are never used to collect data beyond what is described in this policy.

Children's privacy

The extension is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
